Business is more than providing work for their employees. It is true that everyone wants to earn a good salary to survive and to live comfortably. They also need to be happy and want some appreciation and respect for their contribution in business goals. Companies who succeed to show employee appreciation are often more successful than other companies because they have teams of happy employees who are more motivated to raise productivity.

Here are 5 ways how you can show appreciation to your employees:

*Praise

Employees want some appreciation for their work. They know that they have to execute their tasks as good as possible but lose often motivation if they never get feedback. A boss who praise their employees for the good work will be more respected because he/she shows an attitude of interest in the performance of his/her employees. This sign of respect will create a healthy work atmosphere and doesn’t cost a cent.

*Show a sign of interest in your employees life

A boss who talks with his/her employees about their daily life without interfering in their private life shows a sign of appreciation. It is a good idea to ask about their family, hobbies, children or if they had a good weekend. It is either necessary you respect their private life and never make critical comments.

It may happen from time to time that some of your employees has some personal problems in his/her life. A boss who shows some flexibility in these difficult periods will be appreciated through his/her employees, for example some free hours for a sick child, an unexpected passing away of a friend etc. Every employee will be happy if his/her boss shows some compassion for unexpected and unpleasant occurrences.

*Financial rewards

Every employee will be happy if he/she receives a financial reward for his/her efforts. This can be a raise of the salary, a bonus for extra production, a profit sharing, a motivation bonus, gift certificates, a birthday present, a percentage of their annual salary on the end of they year or any other financial compensation. These rewards don’t need to be large if the company can’t afford it.

*A lunch invitation and a New Years reception

Many companies give their staff members a lunch invitation which can be organized in the company, a restaurant or any other place outside the company. This often happens on the end of the year or in the beginning of the year. It is also tradition in many companies to organize a New Years reception for their employees to thank them for their efforts of the past year and to motivate them in the New Year.

*Some extra days vacation

It is also a good idea to give employees some extra days vacation if they work several years in the company, for example one day extra for every 5 years they work in the company. A boss can also give some extra days vacation for employees which did something extra for the company, for example extra production, more hours than necessary, weekend work etc.

Feeling valued is important for every employee. Praise, a sign of interest, financial rewards , a lunch invitation, a New Years reception and some extra days vacation are excellent ways to show employee appreciation. It is a good sign which can make most of your employees happy and motivated to work and will often result in an increase of the productivity. Those are great pays to show appreciation, especially the financial rewards. *grins*

Many of my bosses seem to think it is the employees job to praise them, and think that as along as the employee gets a paycheck that is all the boss needs to do.

If only all the bosses will grant these incentives.
